Perkins and Siniard Power Firehawks to Series Sweep of Crimson Pride

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team dorned the diamond on Saturday to close out the four game series with Indiana University Purdue University Columbus on Saturday. The sprint was on to beat the heavy rains forecasted for late Saturday afternoon as the Firehawks defeated the Crimson Pride 10-0 in game three and walked off a win in game four 6-5.
 
GAME THREE: UTS 10, IUPUC 0
For the second consecutive day, the Firehawks put up a 10-spot on the board in a rout of the visitors. Collin Perkins got the party started blasting a triple in the first scoring Gattis Henley. Perkins later scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning Brayden Buckner scored on a throwing error. UTS led 3-0 after one. In the third, Perkins launched a ball off the top of the fence in straight away center putting the Firehawks up by four.
In the fourth, Perkins added four more RBI with a grand slam over the scoreboard in left. UTS led 8-0 after four. Buckner hit a double in the sixth driving in Perkins. Coleman Siniard added the 10th run via a sacrifice fly driving in Cody Womble.
Ridge Raper(1-0) tossed five scoreless innings allowing three hits. Raper fanned nine batters in the win. Blake Medley tossed the sixth and seventh, allowing two hits and striking out three.
 
GAME FOUR: UTS 6, IUPUC 5
In game four, IUPUC got on the board first in the second inning leading 1-0. In the bottom half of the inning, Devin Buckhalter hit a solo homer tying the game. Sebastian Matlock scored on a wild pitch. Grayson Willis doubled to left scoring Cole Barnett. UTS led 3-1 after two innings. In the third, the vistiors put two more on the board to tie the game at three.
Perkins reached on a fielder's choice scoring Zach Hayes in the fourth. Later inning Womble doubled to center scoring Grayson Willis. UTS led 5-3 after four innings. In the sixth, IUPUC plated a pair to tie the game at five.
In the bottom of the seventh, Siniard walked off the game with a pinch hit to right center field scoring Finn Steele.
Danton Rinehart got start allowing three earned runs in five innings of work. He struck out nine and allowed five hits. Tavien Tigg worked in the sixth allowing two earned runs. Jake Stuteville(1-1) recorded the final four outs allowing one hit.
 
NEXT UP
The Firehawks will hit the field again Tuesday, February 11, at three p.m. UTS will host Cumberland at the Bob for a nine inning game.
