PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team returned to the diamond at Bobby Walker Field on Saturday finishing a weekend three game series with #9 William Carey. UTS took game two 13-7 and fell in game three 7-4. UTS fell to 7-12 overall and 2-7 in league play on the year.
GAME TWO: UTS 13, #9 WCU 7
UTS put up a nine spot in the opening inning.
Brayden Buckner got the Firehawks on the board first singling down the right field line.
Gattis Henley scored on the hit.
Coleman Siniard put one in play scoring
Collin Perkins.
Cole Barnett singled to center plating
Cody Womble.
Sebastian Matlock singled through the left side scoring Buckner.
Devin Buckhalter singled to right driving in
Gage Beckner. Henley reached on an error that allowed Barnett and Matlock to come across the plate. Buckhalter scored after Womble was hit by a pitch. Buckner put one in play that scored Henley. UTS led 9-0 after one.
WCU put up a run in the second, three in the third, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth to close the gap to 9-6. The Firehawks answered back scoring four more in the sixth to ice the game. Womble singled through the right side scoring Henley. Buckner added the exclamation point with a three run moon shot scoring Womble and Perkins.
Chambers McGillbery got the start and worked two innings. He allowed five earned runs on five hits.
Jake Stuteville (2-1) finished the game. Stuteville allowed two earned runs on three hits while striking out seven.
GAME THREE: #9WCU 7, UTS 4
William Carey scored three in the opening inning. The Firehawks Perkins put one in play scoring Buckhalter. UTS trailed 3-1 after three.
In the fifth, UTS added one more. Henley put a ball in play allowing
Cannon Raby to score. The Firehawks trailed 3-2.
William Carey added three runs in the seventh. The Firehawks added two more in the eighth.
Mason Billions grounded out to third allowing Perkins to score. Raby singled down the right field line scoring Womble.
WCU added one in the ninth to escape the Bob with a win.
Barrett Brown (1-3) allowed one earned run on four hits over six innings.
Danton Rinehart allowed two earned runs.
Cooper Bailey worked two innings allowing one earned run and recording five strikeouts.
Tavien Tigg closed out the ninth allowing one hit and striking out two.

The Firehawks will return to action at Bobby Walker Field on Tuesday, March 4, hosting Oakwood. First pitch is set for three p.m.
