MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team closed out the final SSAC road series of the regular season with Brewton-Parker on Saturday. The Firehawks huge first inning was the difference in a 13-6 win. UTS improved to 17-28 overall and 9-18 in league play on the season.
Brayden Buckner started the scoring spree in the opening frame. Buckner blasted a three run homer scoring
Cody Womble and
Cannon Raby.
Coleman Siniard made it two round trippers in a row with his solo shot.
Collin Perkins blasted the third UTS homer run of the inning driving in
Mason Billions. UTS led 6-1 after one.
The Barons added five runs in the second to tie the game at six each.
In the fifth, UT Southern put up a four-spot to a lead they would never relinquish. Buckner left the yard again with a solo shot.
Mason Billions followed up by driving in
Gage Beckner. On the play,
Cole Barnett scored on a BPC error. Later in the inning, Billions would score on a wild pitch. UTS led 10-6 after five.
In the ninth, The Firehawks added style runs with another pair of homers. Barnett smashed a two run bomb scoring Beckner. Billions went back to back with a solo shot.
Chambers McGilberry (4-5) took the win in the complete game outing. He allowed six earned runs on 10 hits.
