DECATUR, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team hit the road questing for a SSAC Championship on Thursday. The Firehawks opened with a 13-8 drumming of Mobile. The Firehawks advance to play top seeded #19 Middle Georgia State tomorrow at nine a.m.
Mobile scored three runs in the first leading early. In the home half, the Firehawks answered with four runs.
Mikayla McCain homered to left center scoring
Kassidy Davis and
Lauren Pettie.
Hannah Lindsey doubled to right center plating
Marie Bodily. UTS led 4-3 after one.
In the second, UTS exploded for five runs. McCain put one in play scoring
Haley McDaniel. Cook followed up with a grand slam off the top of the fence in right. Her blast scored Bodily, Davis, and Pettie. UTS led 9-3 after two.
Mobile clawed back into the scoring two runs over the fourth and fifth innings to trail 9-5 heading to the bottom of the fourth. In the home half,
Ella Singletary singled to right scoring Bodily. Hannah Hill singled to left center driving in
Serenity Halstead. UTS led 12-5 after four.
Mobile added three runs in the sixth but UTS added one of their own. McDaniel singled through the right side and a throwing error by Mobile led to another UTS run.
Singletary (12-8) tossed five innings allowing four earned runs on five hits. She struck out six.
Jayci Boozer faced four batters allowing three earned runs. Davis (Sv. 1) tossed two shutout innings allowing three hits.
SSAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The SSAC Championship will be held at Wilson Morgan Park beginning May 1
