FAYETTE, Mo. - The University of Tennessee Southern softball team began the journey for a "Red Banner" facing the fourth seed Campbellsville Tigers on Monday afternoon. UT Southern led by dazzling pitching from
Ella Singletary blanked the Tigers 4-0 on Monday. UTS improved to 31-19 on the year and advanced to take on #8 LSU-Alexandria the top seed in the bracket.
GAME ONE: UTS 4, CU 0
The Firehawks started hot going four for four in their first four at bats.
Kassidy Davis doubled to left field scoring
Haley McDaniel.
Mikayla McCain Singled to right center driving in Davis and
Lauren Pettie. UTS led 3-0 after one.
The Firehawks added their final run in the third.
Marie Bodily reached on a fielder's choice allowing Davis to cross the plate. UTS led 4-0 after three.
Singletary (15-8) dominated the Tigers allowing two hits in the complete game effort. Singletary fanned nine in the shutout win.
GAME THREE: #8LSUA 6, UTS 0
UT Southern only connected on two hits against tough General pitching. Pettie was responsible for both hits, and both Davis (2) and
Marie Bodily drew free passes.
Stella Gilbreath (9-12) took the complete game loss. She allowed two earned runs on eight hits. UTS dropped to 31-20 on the season.
