PULASKI, TENN. – The University of Tennessee Southern is proud to announce the hiring of Luke Moeller as the new Assistant Men's Basketball Coach for the Firehawks. Moeller brings with him a strong background in video analysis, operations, and high-level program experience, having served two years at the University of South Florida.
Head Coach Andy Sharpe had this to say about the addition of Moeller to the staff:
"After a search that produced many high-level candidates, I am thrilled to officially announce that Luke Moeller will be joining our staff here at UT Southern! Luke rose to the top of a very talented and deep candidate pool in part to his experiences as an integral member of the basketball programs at the University of Tennessee and the University of South Florida. Luke is well organized, hungry, and is going to add a ton of value immediately to our program in multiple ways! This is a major win for UT Southern basketball!"
Moeller joins the Firehawk family after spending the last two seasons at the University of South Florida, most recently serving as Video Coordinator under the late Head Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim. In that role, Moeller was responsible for creating opponent scouting edits, post-game video analysis, breaking down daily practice film, and building analytical databases to support team strategy and performance.
Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics, Brandie Paul stated, "I am excited to add Luke to our coaching staff. He will be a key piece in the development of our men's basketball players. I look forward to watching him and Coach Sharpe build the program to a top conference contender in the near future."
In Moeller's two seasons as a graduate assistant at USF—one under Abdur-Rahim during the program's historic 2023–24 season that saw the Bulls capture the AAC Regular Season Championship and earn a berth in the NIT Tournament, and one under Brian Gregory, now the General Manager of the Phoenix Suns.
Before his time at USF, Moeller was deeply involved in the basketball program at the University of Tennessee, where he served as Head Student Manager from 2018–2022. During his four years in Knoxville, he was part of three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run and an SEC Tournament Championship in 2022.
A Knoxville native, Moeller was born in Vladivostok, Russia before being adopted as a baby by his loving family. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Tennessee in 2022 and later completed his Master's degree in Global Sustainability – Sustainable Business from the University of South Florida in 2024.
"To God Be the Glory! I'd like to thank Coach Andy Sharpe and Athletic Director Brandie Paul for this amazing opportunity to join this staff and become part of the FireHawk family! I admire Coach Sharpe's impressive resume of building championship programs and leading young men on a daily basis. I am honored to join this program and am committed to helping serve this team and community!"
