PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern is proud to announce the hiring of NaKiya Mostella as the new assistant cheer coach for the Firehawks, beginning with the 2025–26 season.

"Becoming an assistant cheer coach at the University of Tennessee Southern is a full-circle moment for me," said Mostella. "This program helped shape who I am as an athlete, a leader, and a person. Now, I get to give back by helping the next generation grow. I am beyond grateful to be a part of the Firehawk alumni family."

A 2025 graduate of UT Southern, Mostella returns to the program following a decorated career as a student-athlete. She brings a deep understanding of the Firehawk culture, along with a passion for leadership and mentorship that will serve the team well in her new role.

"I am so excited for NaKiya to be our assistant coach," said Head Cheer Coach Keye Matthews. "She not only brings her experience, knowledge, and passion for the sport, but also her respect and understanding of the program, athletes, and culture."

Mostella was a three-time First Team All-Conference selection (2021–22, 2023–24, 2024–25) and earned First Team All-American honors in both the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons. She capped her collegiate career by being named the 2024–25 Southern States Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year.

Mostella will begin her duties immediately as the Firehawks prepare for the upcoming season.
