ALEXANDRIA, La. – The #6 UT Southern women's soccer team opened the 2025 season with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over LSU Alexandria on Wednesday afternoon.
The Firehawks struck first in the 11th minute when Kamilia Tayebi scored unassisted to give UTS an early 1-0 advantage. The first half was controlled by the Firehawks, who limited LSUA's opportunities and maintained steady pressure on the attack.

UT Southern extended its lead to 2-0 early in the second half when Hikaru Uchida converted a penalty kick in the 55th minute. LSUA pulled within one less than two minutes later, but the Firehawks answered back in the 66th minute as Millie Rayner scored off assists from Riho Masuya and Sharaid Palmeros-Solis to make it 3-1.
LSUA added a goal in the 87th minute to cut the deficit, but UT Southern's defense held strong in the closing minutes to secure the season-opening win.
