UT Southern Athletics Records Strong Fall Academic Performance

16 Varsity Programs Earn Team GPAs of 3.0 or Higher

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern athletic department continued its strong tradition of excellence in the classroom, posting a 3.212 overall athletics grade point average during the fall academic semester.

Among UT Southern's programs, 16 of 19 varsity teams and one developmental program recorded a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, highlighted by a 3.256 combined varsity GPA. Several programs turned in outstanding academic performances, with multiple teams posting GPAs well above the 3.4 mark.

Women's golf led the department with a 3.59 GPA, closely followed by men's golf (3.56) and women's outdoor track & field (3.52). Men's tennis (3.48) and women's tennis (3.44) rounded out the top five varsity programs.

Additional varsity teams achieving a 3.0 or higher included women's soccer (3.42), women's cross country (3.42), women's swimming (3.40), softball (3.37), men's swimming (3.33), men's soccer (3.31), women's volleyball (3.24), baseball (3.23), men's cross country (3.19), clay target (3.03), and men's basketball (3.02).

UT Southern's junior varsity programs also contributed to the department's academic success, combining for a 2.910 GPA. JV women's soccer led the developmental programs with a 3.32 GPA.

Team GPA is calculated by dividing the total quality points earned by the total hours attempted during the academic term for all student-athletes listed on each team's eligibility certificate.

"We are extremely proud of the commitment our student-athletes continue to show in the classroom," said UT Southern Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Brandie Paul. "Balancing the demands of athletics and academics is not easy, and these GPAs are a direct reflection of their discipline, time management, and dedication to excellence. Congratulations to all of our teams on another outstanding academic semester."

UT Southern student-athletes once again proved that Firehawks soar not only in competition, but also in the pursuit of academic achievement.
