FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's tennis team opened the 2026 spring season Friday evening with a 5–2 loss to Lipscomb University in an indoor matchup.
UT Southern recorded its first win of the night in doubles play at the No. 2 position, where Ayden Kousis and Luis Cupertino de Santana teamed up for a 6–2 victory. The Firehawks were unable to claim the doubles point, however, as Lipscomb secured wins on the other two courts to take the early advantage.
In singles action, UT Southern picked up two wins, both coming via first-set retirements due to Lipscomb injuries. Kousis earned the Firehawks' first singles victory at the No. 2 position, while Brock Hamilton was credited with the win at No. 6 singles before play could continue beyond the opening set.
The Firehawks battled across the remaining courts but were unable to overcome Lipscomb's depth as the Bisons secured the overall decision.
UT Southern returns to action on January 24, hosting Bevill State Community College and Northwest Mississippi Community College at the D. Ann Neville Tennis Courts in a pair of exhibition matches.
