OWENSBORO, Ky. / EVANSVILLE, Ind. – No. 20 UT Southern Men's Tennis completed a demanding three-match Saturday on February 7, opening the day in Owensboro, Kentucky against Brescia University and Kentucky Wesleyan University before closing the evening in Evansville, Indiana against No. 15 Oakland City University.
The Firehawks began the day with a strong 4-0 victory over Brescia in Owensboro. UT Southern swept the doubles point, earning wins at all three positions. Daiki Ishii and Quentin Ferron picked up a convincing win at No. 1 doubles, while Luis Guilherme Cupertino de Santana and Ayden Kousis secured the point at No. 2. Gaspar Audisio and Ryosuke Furuya completed the sweep with a win at No. 3 doubles. In singles play, UT Southern clinched the match with straight-set victories from Cupertino de Santana, Kousis, and Furuya.
In the second match of the day, UT Southern faced Kentucky Wesleyan and fell 4-0. The Firehawks battled through doubles play before moving into singles competition, where several matches were tightly contested. Kelton Cantrell and Gabriel Kosaka each pushed their singles matches deep, as UT Southern continued to gain valuable experience throughout the lineup.
UT Southern closed the long day in Evansville with a 4-1 loss to No. 15 Oakland City. The Firehawks earned their lone team point in singles play, as Cupertino de Santana delivered a hard-fought win at the top of the lineup. Additional strong efforts came from Ferron, Gaspar Audisio, and Ishii, who all competed deep into their matches to cap off the three-match slate.
No. 20 UT Southern will return to action on February 20, hosting Milligan at the D. Ann Neville Tennis Complex.
