MARIETTA, Ga. – UT Southern put together a complete performance Saturday afternoon, pulling away in the second half for a 70–55 road win over Life University at the Eagles' Nest.
The Firehawks set the tone early behind steady offense from Ashley Dickey and Lauren Smith, weathering a back-and-forth opening quarter before taking control in the second. UT Southern used a strong defensive stand and timely scoring to turn a slim margin into a 26–19 halftime advantage.
Out of the break, the Firehawks delivered their best stretch of the game. Dickey attacked the lane and finished through contact, while Smith continued her efficient shooting to help UT Southern open the third quarter with a decisive run. The Firehawks outscored Life 24–17 in the period, pushing the lead into double figures and forcing Life to play from behind the rest of the afternoon.
Dickey led UT Southern with 18 points and added seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals, consistently impacting the game on both ends of the floor. Smith followed with a strong all-around effort, scoring 15 points and pulling down four rebounds while knocking down shots at a high clip.
Abbilyn Teter provided another key scoring punch, finishing with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Ramie Reid contributed nine points and seven rebounds to bolster the Firehawks on the glass. UT Southern controlled the boards throughout the game, limiting second-chance opportunities and turning defensive stops into transition chances.
The Firehawks closed the game with composure in the fourth quarter, maintaining pressure defensively and converting at the free-throw line to secure the 15-point road win.
UT Southern will return home for its next contest on Thursday, January 22, hosting Abraham Baldwin at the Curry Athletic Complex.
