MOUNT VERNON, Ga - UT Southern pushed its winning streak to 10 games Thursday night, pulling away late for an 82–67 road victory over Brewton-Parker Christian on January 29.
The Firehawks absorbed an early punch before settling in and taking control across the final three quarters. After trailing by four at the end of the opening period, UT Southern tightened defensively and found its rhythm on the offensive end in the second quarter.
Ramie Reid and Lauren Smith anchored the Firehawks inside as UT Southern began to attack the paint consistently, while Silkiari Vazquez-Troche controlled the tempo and created opportunities in transition. The Firehawks outscored Brewton-Parker 22–13 in the second quarter to flip the game and take a 37–32 lead into halftime.
UT Southern maintained the upper hand coming out of the break, using defensive pressure to limit clean looks and turn stops into scoring chances. Reid continued to finish around the rim, and Abbilyn Teter provided key minutes to help the Firehawks hold a six-point edge entering the fourth quarter.
The final period belonged to Ashley Dickey. The senior guard took over down the stretch, scoring 14 of her game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter while repeatedly getting to the free-throw line. Dickey's aggressive play helped UT Southern stretch the lead to double digits and close the door on any comeback attempt.
Dickey finished with 20 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Vazquez-Troche filled the stat sheet with 15 points, six rebounds, eight assists, and three steals, while Reid added 14 points and six rebounds. Smith chipped in 13 points on efficient shooting, and Mycala Carney added nine points off the bench to round out the balanced effort.
UT Southern shot efficiently from the floor and converted at a high rate from the free-throw line, using defense, ball movement, and poise late to secure its 10th consecutive victory.
The Firehawks will look to keep the streak rolling on Saturday, January 31, when UT Southern travels to Point University for its next conference matchup.
