UT Southern Overwhelms Point to Extend Win Streak

Firehawks Turn Turnovers into Points in Runaway Win

WEST POINT, Ga. - UT Southern continued its dominant stretch on Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 79–40 road victory at Point University to extend its winning streak to 11 games on at West Point Park Gymnasium.

The Firehawks set the tone immediately and never looked back, opening the game on a 23–4 run in the first quarter. UT Southern's defensive pressure forced early turnovers and rushed shots, allowing the Firehawks to build a double-digit lead before the first media timeout. Ramie Reid and Lauren Smith provided the early scoring punch, while the Firehawks limited Point to just two made field goals in the opening period.

UT Southern maintained control in the second quarter, continuing to attack the paint and crash the glass. Abbilyn Teter and Marypaz Martinez supplied key baskets, and Silkiari Vazquez-Troche orchestrated the offense, helping the Firehawks carry a commanding 39–11 advantage into halftime.

The third quarter was the decisive stretch. UT Southern erupted for 28 points in the period, shooting 50 percent from the field and knocking down four three-pointers. Martinez sparked the run with a pair of triples, while Emma Bryant and Taya Totten capitalized in transition. The Firehawks' lead ballooned to as many as 45 points as defensive stops repeatedly turned into scoring opportunities.

With the outcome decided, UT Southern closed the game efficiently in the fourth quarter, spreading minutes across the lineup while maintaining defensive intensity. The Firehawks finished with 44 points in the paint, 28 points off turnovers, and 42 bench points, underscoring their depth and balance.

Martinez led all Firehawks with 12 points, setting a new career high while shooting 3-of-4 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 at the free-throw line. Reid and Smith each added 11 points, while Teter chipped in nine points. Bryant contributed seven points and five rebounds, Totten scored six points with six rebounds, and Dickey added six points, four rebounds, and three steals. Vazquez-Troche filled the stat sheet with eight assists and six steals, directing the offense and anchoring the defense.

The 11-game winning streak approaches the Firehawks' longest run since the 2017–18 season, when the RedHawks reeled off 12 consecutive victories.

UT Southern will return home for its next contest on Saturday, February 7, hosting Life University at the Curry Athletic Complex. The Firehawks defeated Life earlier this season, 70–55, in Marietta.
