WEST POINT, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team concluded its Georgia road trip Saturday morning with a 3-0 loss to Point University (25-23, 25-21, 25-16) in Southern States Athletic Conference action.
The Firehawks moved to 7-14 overall and 3-5 in SSAC play following the match.
UT Southern was led offensively by Meloise Aureyre and Ashlee Kraft, who each recorded 13 kills. Kraft added a .321 hitting percentage, eight digs, and a service ace, while Aureyre chipped in eight digs and hit .259.
The opening set was tightly contested throughout. The Firehawks totaled 15 kills and hit .205 as a team, remaining within striking distance before Point edged out a 25-23 victory.
The second set featured 10 ties and three lead changes as neither team could create much separation. UT Southern battled throughout the frame behind the play of Kraft and Aureyre, but Point used a late push to secure a 25-21 win and take a two-set lead.
The Skyhawks carried that momentum into the third set, hitting .409 while limiting the Firehawks to a .130 hitting percentage. Point closed out the match with a 25-16 victory.
Sophomore setter Jelleny Mallozzi directed the Firehawk offense with 32 assists while adding two kills, eight digs, and a service ace. Ashley Cope anchored the back row with a team-high 14 digs and an ace.
At the net, Amree Patterson recorded four block assists, while Emma Beardsley added three block assists and five digs. Olivia Ward contributed five kills on a .250 hitting percentage.
As a team, UT Southern finished with 39 kills, 45 digs, and eight total blocks.
