Millie Rayner and Ashanti Lewis Each Score Twice as UT Southern Extends Its Unbeaten Streak to Nine Matches and Improves to 7-0 in Conference Action

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team continued its impressive run through Southern States Athletic Conference play Saturday morning, defeating Brewton-Parker Christian 6-0 on the road.

The Firehawks improved to 9-1-1 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 7-0. The victory also extended UT Southern's unbeaten streak to nine matches.

UT Southern wasted little time taking control of the match. Millie Rayner opened the scoring just over four minutes into the contest, finishing a pass from Osiris Rodriguez for her 18th goal of the season. Just over 10 minutes later, Rayner struck again, converting a feed from Karla Montiel to double the Firehawks' advantage.

The Firehawks continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, generating numerous scoring chances and controlling possession. Luella Cramer added a goal in the 38th minute off an assist from Skyler Montgomery, sending UT Southern into halftime with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

After the break, UT Southern picked up right where it left off. Riho Masuya extended the lead to 4-0 in the 71st minute following an assist from Ellie Walker. Ashanti Lewis then scored twice in a span of just over a minute, first finishing a pass from Cramer before converting another opportunity created by Masuya to cap the scoring at 6-0.

The Firehawks dominated statistically from start to finish, outshooting Brewton-Parker 33-3 and holding a commanding 24-2 advantage in shots on goal. UT Southern also controlled the run of play with a 22-1 edge in corner kicks.

Rayner led the attack with two goals, while Lewis added a pair of goals off the bench. Masuya finished with a goal and an assist, while Cramer contributed a goal and an assist. Rodriguez, Montiel, Montgomery, Walker, Cramer, and Masuya each recorded assists in the victory.

Defensively, the Firehawks were once again outstanding. Sam De Gier made two saves before McKenzie Raine took over in goal for the final 52 minutes. The duo combined for another clean sheet as UT Southern held Brewton-Parker scoreless.

Despite the final score, the Brewton-Parker goalkeeper turned in a strong performance, recording 18 saves against the Firehawks' relentless attack.
