Hot Bats Power Firehawks Sweep at Bryan College

UT Southern Plates 16 Runs in Road Twin Bill

DAYTON, Tenn. – Tennessee Southern remained unbeaten on the season Friday afternoon, sweeping Bryan College in a road doubleheader behind hot bats and strong pitching performances.

Game One – Tennessee Southern 11, Bryan College 3

UT Southern responded after an early deficit and broke the game open late to secure an 11–3 victory in the opener. Alaina Grace King put the Firehawks on the board in the second inning with a solo home run to left, giving UT Southern its first lead of the day.

The Firehawks seized control in the fifth inning as Carley Cook launched a three-run home run to center field, scoring McDaniel and McCain. UT Southern added insurance in the sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Lauren Pettie before McCain blasted her second home run of the game. King capped the scoring with an RBI single as the Firehawks pushed the margin to eight.

In the circle, Stella Gilbreath earned the win, allowing three runs while striking out five across six innings. McDaniel crossed the plate three times and added a stolen base, while King went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Game Two – Tennessee Southern 5, Bryan College 3

UT Southern jumped ahead early in the nightcap and held on for a 5–3 win to complete the sweep. The Firehawks applied immediate pressure in the first inning, with McCain driving in a run on a single before Cook and Marie Bodily each delivered RBI hits to give UT Southern a 3–0 advantage.

Hannah Lindsey added to the lead in the second inning, scoring on a passed ball after reaching scoring position with a double. Cook later extended the margin in the third with a solo home run to center field.

Bryan College mounted a challenge in the fifth, but Ella Singletary shut the door in the circle. Singletary went the distance, striking out nine while allowing three runs, working out of multiple jams to preserve the Firehawks' lead.

Cook finished game two with two hits, two runs scored, and a home run, while McCain added two hits and an RBI. Lindsey chipped in a double and a run scored, and Bodily contributed a hit, an RBI, and a stolen base.

Tennessee Southern will return home for its next contest on February 17, hosting Stillman at Royce Hughes Field.
