PULASKI, Tenn. – Tennessee Southern closed Senior Day in dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon, outlasting Blue Mountain Christian 77–74 to extend its winning streak to 13 games, breaking the modern-era program record that previously stood at 12 games during the 2017–18 season.
The Firehawks never let the moment overwhelm the afternoon, jumping out early behind aggressive defense and balanced scoring. UT Southern built an 18–15 edge after the opening quarter, sparked by strong interior finishes and early activity on the glass. Tennessee Southern pushed the lead to double figures late in the second period, using a 10–2 run capped by timely perimeter shooting to take a 35–27 advantage into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Firehawks continued to dictate tempo. Silkiari Vazquez-Troche attacked in transition and finished through contact, while Abbilyn Teter knocked down key buckets inside to keep UT Southern in front. Despite Blue Mountain Christian answering with a strong third-quarter push, Tennessee Southern maintained control behind defensive pressure and rebounding, carrying a 52–48 lead into the final frame.
The fourth quarter turned into a grind, with both teams trading runs and momentum swinging back and forth. Each time the margin tightened, the Firehawks responded. Vazquez-Troche delivered multiple finishes in traffic, while Ashley Dickey calmly stepped to the free-throw line late, converting crucial attempts to keep UT Southern in front. A final defensive stand sealed the Senior Day victory as the Firehawks protected the lead in the closing seconds.
Vazquez-Troche led UT Southern with 20 points, adding nine rebounds, 10 assists, five steals, and four blocks in a dominant all-around performance. Dickey followed with 15 points, knocking down 9-of-12 free throws while anchoring the Firehawks defensively.
