Firehawks Drop Finale to No. 9 Loyola

Firehawks Wrap up Conference Series in Pulaski

PULASKI, Tenn. – Tennessee Southern closed its weekend Southern States Athletic Conference series with No. 9 Loyola on Saturday at Bobby Walker Field, with the Wolf Pack claiming the finale 17–4.

Loyola struck first in the opening inning after a triple and a stolen base sequence allowed the game's first run to cross the plate.

The Wolf Pack added to the lead in the second. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases before a two-run single pushed the margin to 4–0.

Loyola extended its advantage again in the third inning with a two-run home run to make it 6–0.

Tennessee Southern threatened in the second when Anthony Pastrana singled and Cooper Phillips followed with a base hit down the left-field line, but the Firehawks were unable to bring a run across.

The Firehawks broke through in the fifth inning. Collin Perkins worked a walk and Masato Mizumori followed with another free pass to set the table. Carson Foote then delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon, launching a three-run home run to left-center to cut the deficit to 15–3.

Tennessee Southern added another run in the sixth when Pastrana connected on a solo home run to left-center.

Foote led the Firehawks offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Pastrana added two hits, including a home run, and drove in a run while scoring once. Phillips and Reagan Tomlin each recorded a hit, while Perkins scored a run and reached base with a walk.

On the mound, Cooper Bailey made the start before the Firehawks turned to Mac Etheredge, Braydon Kercado, Danton Rinehart, Jase Brandon, Tavien Tigg, and Will Vines out of the bullpen.

Tennessee Southern returns to action Friday, March 20, traveling to Blue Mountain Christian to open another SSAC weekend series.
