PULASKI, Tenn. – No. 24 Tennessee Southern continued its strong start to conference play Friday afternoon, sweeping Brewton-Parker Christian in a home twin bill at Royce Hughes Field.
Tennessee Southern 8, Brewton-Parker 0 (6 Inn.)
The Firehawks broke through in the fourth inning of the opener and never looked back.
After three scoreless frames, Marie Bodily singled to center to start the rally and Hannah Lindsey followed with an RBI single up the middle to give UT Southern a 1-0 lead. Moments later, Emory Hall delivered the biggest swing of the game, blasting a three-run home run to left to extend the advantage to 4-0.
UT Southern continued to add on in the fifth. Evi Edwards singled before Mikayla McCain drew a walk, and after a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, Bodily drove in a run with a single to left. Lindsey followed with another RBI single to push the lead to 7-0.
In the sixth, Ella Singletary reached and later came around to score on Edwards' RBI single to cap the scoring at 8-0.
Hall led the offense with a home run, two hits, and three RBIs. Bodily finished 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Lindsey added two hits and two RBIs. Edwards recorded three hits and an RBI, and Singletary collected two hits and scored twice. McDaniel added a hit at the top of the lineup.
In the circle, Stella Gilbreath was dominant, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just three hits.
Tennessee Southern 7, Brewton-Parker 2
The Firehawks wasted no time in the nightcap, erupting for four runs in the first inning.
Haley McDaniel singled and later scored on Alaina Grace King's RBI single. Evi Edwards followed with a base hit before Mikayla McCain drove in a run with a single to left. With two on, Hannah Lindsey delivered a two-RBI single down the left-field line to cap the inning and give UT Southern a 4-0 lead.
UT Southern added another run in the second when King singled home McDaniel to make it 5-0.
Brewton-Parker scored twice in the fourth, but the Firehawks answered in the fifth. McCain doubled to left center and later scored on a heads-up baserunning play to extend the lead to 6-2.
In the sixth, King continued her strong day with an RBI single to bring home another run and push the lead to 7-2.
McDaniel led the offense with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, scoring three times. King went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while McCain added two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Lindsey recorded a hit and drove in two, and Edwards contributed a hit and scored.
In the circle, Ella Singletary earned the win, tossing a complete game while allowing two runs and striking out five.
Tennessee Southern returns to action Saturday, March 21, hosting Abraham Baldwin for the SSAC Series of the Week.
