PULASKI, Tenn. – Tennessee Southern completed a Southern States Athletic Conference series sweep of Point on Saturday at Bobby Walker Field, winning game two in extra innings before taking the finale in a seven-inning contest to secure the first series sweep under head coach Braxton Morris.
In game two, originally scheduled for seven innings, the Firehawks needed extras to secure a 3–2 victory.
Tennessee Southern struck first in the opening inning as Anthony Pastrana tripled and later scored on a balk to give the Firehawks a 1–0 lead.
The game remained a pitcher's duel into the middle innings before Point pushed across two runs in the sixth to take a 2–1 advantage.
The Firehawks answered in the seventh. Masato Mizumori worked a walk and advanced before Evan Nelson delivered a single to put runners on the corners. Pastrana followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 2–2 and force extra innings.
On the mound, Jake Stuteville kept Tennessee Southern within striking distance, working six innings while allowing just two runs. Will Vines followed with a scoreless seventh to extend the game, and Collin Perkins took over in extras, tossing two shutout innings to earn the win.
In the ninth, the Firehawks delivered the walk-off moment. Pastrana singled to start the inning and moved into scoring position before Cooper Phillips lined a single to left-center, bringing him home for the game-winning run.
Pastrana led the Firehawks with a standout performance, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Mizumori added two hits and reached base multiple times, while Phillips delivered the walk-off RBI. Zac Wilson, Reagan Tomlin, and Gage Beckner each added hits in the win.
With the extended game two, the series finale shifted to a seven-inning contest.
In game three, Tennessee Southern used a pair of big innings to secure a 14–9 victory and complete the sweep.
The Firehawks answered early after falling behind, tying the game in the first before erupting in the second and third innings. Pastrana continued his strong day at the plate, delivering multiple RBI hits to help Tennessee Southern take the lead.
After Point briefly regained momentum, the Firehawks responded with a decisive seven-run fourth inning. Nelson reached and scored, and Pastrana followed with a two-run single to spark the rally. Zac Wilson added an RBI single before Phillips delivered a two-run double. Reagan Tomlin capped the inning with an RBI single as Tennessee Southern built a 14–7 advantage.
Pastrana paced the offense in the finale, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Wilson added three hits and three RBIs, while Nelson recorded two hits, scored three runs, and drove in a run. Phillips finished with a double and two RBIs, and Tomlin added a hit and an RBI. Beckner scored twice and reached base multiple times, while Carson Foote scored three runs and reached base three times.
On the mound, Braydon Kercado earned the win in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings to stabilize the game after the early innings.
With the sweep, Tennessee Southern secured its first SSAC series sweep under head coach Braxton Morris.
The Firehawks return to action Tuesday, March 31, traveling to Oakwood.
