PULASKI, Tenn. / JACKSON, Tenn. – The No. 22 UT Southern Men's Tennis team and UT Southern Women's Tennis team faced a challenging pair of nationally ranked opponents this week, with the men hosting No. 24 Arizona Christian before both programs traveled to face Huntington.
MEN'S TENNIS
No. 22 UT Southern opened the week with a 4-3 victory over No. 22 Arizona Christian.
The Firehawks secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Quentin Ferron and Brock Hamilton earned a 6-2 win at the top spot, while Gaspar Audisio and Ryosuke Furuya followed with a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Ayden Kousis delivered a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Ryosuke Furuya added a strong 6-1, 7-6 victory at No. 4, while Daiki Ishii secured the deciding point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
The Firehawks later traveled to Jackson to face No. 17 Huntington, falling 5-2.
UT Southern picked up two singles wins in the matchup. Gaspar Audisio earned a hard-fought 7-6, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles, while Daiki Ishii added a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. The Firehawks also earned a doubles victory at No. 3, where Ryosuke Furuya and Audisio secured a 6-4 win.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
UT Southern Women's Tennis also faced Huntington in Jackson, falling 5-0.
In singles play, Sofi Rueda battled in a competitive match at No. 2 singles, taking the first set 6-3 before the match shifted. Agota Juozapaviciute competed at No. 3 singles and pushed the opening set to a 7-5 scoreline. Natalia Vergara competed at the top spot for the Firehawks.
UT Southern will return to action as Southern States Athletic Conference play begins today with a matchup against Blue Mountain Christian. The Firehawks will also face Rust in a nonconference match.
