DAYTON, Tenn. – Tennessee Southern jumped out to an early lead but could not withstand a big fourth inning, falling 16–5 to Bryan College on Tuesday afternoon at Senter Field.
The Firehawks came out swinging in the first. Evan Nelson doubled to open the game and Anthony Pastrana followed after being hit by a pitch. Zac Wilson delivered an RBI double to bring in Nelson, and Cooper Phillips added a sacrifice fly to plate Pastrana. Devin Thrain capped the inning with another sacrifice fly as Tennessee Southern built a 3–0 advantage.
Bryan chipped away with a run in the second and two more in the third to even the game at 3–3.
Tennessee Southern answered in the fourth. Jake Tegler singled and Gage Beckner worked a walk to put two aboard. After advancing on a wild pitch, Beckner came around to score, and Pastrana added a sacrifice fly to bring home another run as the Firehawks regained a 5–3 lead.
Bryan responded with a decisive fourth inning, scoring 11 runs to take control of the game and added another run in the fifth.
Wilson led the Firehawks with two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Nelson added a double, scored a run, and reached base twice, while Beckner recorded a hit, scored a run, and reached base multiple times.
Tegler finished with a hit, and Reagan Tomlin added a hit and a stolen base. Pastrana and Phillips each drove in a run, and Thrain contributed an RBI as well.
On the mound, Barrett Brown worked three innings, allowing three runs while striking out two. The Firehawks used a bullpen-by-committee approach the rest of the way.
Tennessee Southern returns to action Friday, April 17, hosting Brewton-Parker Christian for the final home series of the season at the "Bob."
