PULASKI, Tenn. – Tennessee Southern closed out its Southern States Athletic Conference series with Brewton-Parker Christian on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Walker Field, falling 5–3 in the finale on Senior Day.
Prior to first pitch, the Firehawks honored a group of seniors for their contributions to the program, recognizing Jackson Moon, Collin Perkins, Danton Reinhart, Barrett Brown, Hunter Hancock, Jake Stuteville, and Tavien Tigg in a pregame ceremony.
Brewton-Parker struck first in the third, taking advantage of a defensive miscue to plate the opening run. The Barons added another in the fourth to extend the lead to 2–0.
Tennessee Southern answered in the fourth inning. Baron Cribbs worked a walk and Evan Nelson followed with another free pass to set the table. With two outs, Zac Wilson delivered a clutch two-RBI single through the left side, tying the game at 2–2.
The Barons regained the lead in the fifth, and later added two more in the seventh to stretch the margin to 5–2.
The Firehawks chipped away in the bottom of the seventh. Wilson was hit by a pitch and later moved into scoring position before coming around to score on aggressive baserunning from Gage Beckner, cutting the deficit to 5–3.
Wilson led the Firehawks offensively with two hits and two RBIs, while Cribbs added a double and scored a run. Pastrana recorded a hit, and Phillips reached base twice. Nelson reached base twice and scored a run, while Beckner added a stolen base and a run scored.
On the mound, Cooper Bailey worked 3.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out three. Tavien Tigg took the loss in relief, while Braydon Kercado provided scoreless work out of the bullpen. Barrett Brown and Jackson Moon were part of the middle-inning pitching effort, and Collin Perkins closed the game with three strong innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three.
Tennessee Southern returns to action Tuesday, April 21, traveling to Cumberland.
