No. 25 Firehawks Sweep Rival Bethel

UT Southern Scores 20 Runs in Twin Bill Win

McKENZIE, Tenn. – No. 25 Tennessee Southern delivered a commanding performance on the road Tuesday, sweeping rival Bethel in a nonconference twin bill behind explosive offense and dominant pitching.

Tennessee Southern 9, Bethel 1 (5 Inn.)

The Firehawks shook off an early deficit and took control with a pair of big innings.

After Bethel struck first in the opening frame, UT Southern responded in the third. Pettie singled and later scored as King delivered an RBI double. Hall followed with a two-RBI double to give the Firehawks a 3-1 lead.

UT Southern broke the game open in the fourth. McDaniel, Pettie, and McCain all reached to load the bases before McCain drove in two runs with a single. King followed with a base hit and later stole home, while Hall added another RBI knock. Bodily capped the inning with an RBI single as the Firehawks extended the lead to 9-1.

Hall led the offense with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. King finished with two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Pettie added two hits and an RBI. McCain recorded a hit, two RBIs, and scored twice. McDaniel contributed two hits and scored a run, and Bodily added a hit and an RBI. Lindsey also recorded a hit, while Mosley and Cook each reached base.

In the circle, Singletary earned the win, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four across five innings.

Tennessee Southern 11, Bethel 0 (5 Inn.)

The Firehawks carried that momentum into game two, erupting early and never looking back.

UT Southern exploded for eight runs in the second inning. King sparked the rally with a double before Hall, Bodily, and Lindsey each delivered RBI hits. Mosley added a run-scoring single, Pettie drove in a run, and McDaniel capped the inning with an RBI as the Firehawks built an 8-0 advantage.

The Firehawks added two more in the third as Mosley drove in runs with a bases-clearing play, and extended the lead again in the fourth when King delivered another RBI hit.

King led the charge with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, including two doubles and four RBIs. Hall was equally impressive, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and multiple runs scored. Mosley added a hit and four RBIs, while Bodily recorded a hit and an RBI. Lindsey contributed a hit and an RBI, and McDaniel added a hit and an RBI. McCain doubled and reached base multiple times, while Cook scored twice and reached base.

In the circle, Gilbreath earned the win with 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Ursery closed out the final outs to complete the shutout.

Tennessee Southern returns to action to close out the regular season hosting Blue Mountain Christian for Senior Day and the final SSAC twin bill.
