PULASKI, Tenn. – The UT Southern men's soccer team remained unbeaten to open the 2026 season, scoring four unanswered goals to defeat Brescia University 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Grissom Pitch.
The Firehawks improved to 3-0 on the year after overcoming an early deficit and controlling much of the match, finishing with a 24-14 advantage in shots and an 11-8 edge in shots on goal.
Brescia struck first in the 23rd minute, capitalizing on a misplaced pass by the Firehawks that created a 3-on-1 opportunity in transition. The visitors converted the chance to take a 1-0 lead despite UT Southern carrying the majority of possession.
The Firehawks answered in the 36th minute when David Danquah buried a rebound after his initial effort was saved, leveling the match at 1-1. Danquah's second goal of the season ignited a stretch of three goals in just over 10 minutes for UT Southern.
Less than four minutes later, Christian Sentz gave the Firehawks their first lead of the afternoon. Danquah played the setup pass, and Sentz finished for his second goal of the season to put UT Southern ahead 2-1 entering halftime.
The Firehawks wasted little time adding to their advantage after the break. Just 97 seconds into the second half, Filippo Fregoli found the back of the net off assists from Felix Hammel and Sentz, extending the lead to 3-1. The goal was Fregoli's first of the season.
UT Southern continued to create opportunities throughout the second half and ultimately sealed the victory in the 89th minute. Nick Miske delivered a pass to Esteban Rangel, who finished for his first goal of the season and the final 4-1 margin.
Danquah led the Firehawks with a goal, an assist, and three shots on goal, while Sentz added a goal and an assist. William McGinn recorded seven saves between the posts to earn his third victory of the season.
