COLUMBIA, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Lindsey Wilson College on Wednesday evening at Biggers Sports Center.
The Firehawks battled back after a difficult opening set, claiming the second set to even the match before the Blue Raiders pulled away to secure the victory by scores of 25-12, 17-25, 25-16, and 25-23.
UT Southern was led offensively by Ashlee Kraft and Emma Beardsley, who each finished with 13 kills. Beardsley added two service aces and nine digs, while Kraft chipped in seven digs and a service ace.
Meloise Aureyre added eight kills and a team-high 10 digs, while Jelleny Mallozzi directed the Firehawk offense with 28 assists and eight digs.
After dropping the opening set, UT Southern responded with a strong second-set effort, using a balanced attack to level the match at one set apiece. The Firehawks remained within striking distance throughout the fourth set and threatened to force a decisive fifth before Lindsey Wilson closed out the match.
Ashley Cope and Beardsley each recorded nine digs, helping anchor the back row. Amree Patterson added four kills and three total blocks, while Olivia Ward contributed a kill, an ace, and two digs.
As a team, the Firehawks totaled 38 kills, seven service aces, and a .175 hitting percentage in the match.

UT Southern returns home on Thursday, Sept. 10, to host rival Bethel University at the Curry Athletic Complex. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Firehawks swept the Wildcats in straight sets in McKenzie on Aug. 25 and will look to complete the season sweep in front of the home crowd.
