Janzen Powell enters his third year as an assistant coach at Tennessee Southern in 2026. 

Powell, an Albertville, Ala. native, graduated from Albertville High School in 2017. He began his collegiate career at Jacksonville State University before transferring after two years to Bevill State Community College. Spending two seasons at BSCC, Powell transferred to the University of Tennessee Southern. At UTS , he played his final two seasons playing for the Firehawks. In Powell’s final season the team went 33-18 and he hit .309 with six home runs. Throughout his playing career Powell played infield and catcher.

After playing the 2023 season, Powell was hired by his alma mater.

Powell earned an associate’s degree at BSCC and his bachelor’s at UT Southern.

Coach Powell is married to Macklyn Hubbard Powell.
