Mitch Hill enters his ninth season as Head Baseball Coach at the University of Tennessee Southern in the 2026 season. He became the seventh head coach in the modern era of the Firehawk program, taking over following the interim tenure of Blake Beavers during the 2018 season.
Hill arrived in Pulaski after a five-year run as head coach at NCAA Division I Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Alabama. He orchestrated a significant turnaround for the Bulldogs, guiding them from just 16 combined wins over two seasons to 47 wins in his first two years, including a program-record 26 wins in 2015. That same year, Hill was honored as the SWAC Coach of the Year.
During his time at Alabama A&M, Hill also led the program to its first-ever Division I conference tournament win and developed 13 SWAC All-Conference selections. He also oversaw a consistent rise in the team’s Academic Progress Rate (APR) during his tenure.
Before taking over at Alabama A&M, Hill spent six seasons as an assistant coach at various NCAA Division I and junior college programs. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, the University of North Alabama, serving three seasons as a graduate assistant under Head Coach Mike Keehn. While at UNA, Hill helped develop three Academic All-Americans, 12 All-Conference selections, and three players who went on to sign professional contracts.
He continued his coaching journey at Bevill State Community College (Ala.), where he served as pitching coach, recruiting coordinator, and infield coach. Despite the program being cut after his lone season, Hill brought in a top-three recruiting class in the state of Alabama and coached three Academic All-Americans and two future four-year signees.
Following Bevill, Hill served one season as assistant coach at Motlow State Community College in Lynchburg, Tennessee. There, he mentored a JUCO All-American and helped 16 players sign to continue their playing careers at four-year institutions.
As a player, Hill was a letterwinner and pitcher at the University of North Alabama from 2002–07. He earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with a minor in business administration and later completed his master’s in health promotion and human performance.
A native of Florence, Alabama, Coach Hill is married to Erin Lynn Hill, a registered nurse at Huntsville Hospital. The couple has three sons: Griffin, Bennett, and Jamie. Erin is also a native of Florence.
