Julia Stockton enters her first season as Assistant Women's Basketball Coach and Director of Operations at the University of Tennessee Southern in 2026-27, bringing extensive experience in coaching, basketball operations, program management, and the daily demands of a collegiate women's basketball program.
Stockton arrives at UT Southern after spending five years with the University of Alabama women's basketball program. She served four seasons as a student manager, including three years as Head Manager, before completing one season as a Graduate Assistant. During her time with the Crimson Tide, Alabama recorded five consecutive 20-win seasons and advanced to four NCAA Tournament appearances.
As a coach, Stockton developed a strong background in statistical analysis, practice evaluation, and game preparation. In her role as Graduate Assistant, she tracked in-game offensive possessions, created shot charts, and compiled practice statistics that supported coaching staff evaluations and game-planning efforts.
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Stockton gained extensive experience in basketball operations throughout her five years with the program. As Head Manager, she coordinated manager assignments, organized equipment and team apparel, oversaw practice and game-day setup, managed laundry operations, and assisted with the planning and execution of youth camps. As a Graduate Assistant, she worked closely with the Director of Operations to coordinate team travel, organize meals, and assist with the day-to-day logistics of the program.
Her responsibilities extended across nearly every area of the program, including team finances, recruiting logistics, summer camp coordination, statistical analysis, scouting preparation, and database management. This broad experience provided Stockton with a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to operate a successful Division I women's basketball program.
Stockton combines her basketball experience with a strong academic background. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in General Business and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama. She later completed a Master of Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Operations and Sport Leadership.
Known for her organization, adaptability, and attention to detail, Stockton brings a proactive approach to both coaching and operations. At UT Southern, she will play a key role in supporting player development, game preparation, program logistics, and the continued growth and success of the Firehawks women's basketball program.
