Box Score PULAKSI, Tenn. (9/26) - MMC volleyball brought home a 1-1 weekend record, keeping their TranSouth record over .500 at 3-2 so far. A 1-3 (16-25, 21-25, 29-27, 24-26) loss to Cumberland, followed up with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 25-27, 25-10) win over Lyon moved Martin Methodist to 8-11 overall.
In their loss to CU, three MMC players were in double-digit kills, while Paula Sioto (Freshman/Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ann-Katherin Kuehorn ( Junior/Bamberg, Germany), and Caroline Santos (Sophomore/Sao Paulo, Brazil acquired double-doubles. Sioto tallied 22 kills and 15 digs, while Kuehorn was credited with 15 kills and 11 digs.) Santos used 40 assists and 12 digs to join the double-double club, as Karen Damasio (Freshman/Brazil) and Ya Zhao (Freshman/Tang Gu, China) led the team at the net with four blocks a piece.
Against Lyon, Sioto and Kuehorn led all players with 14 kills each, while Damasio was the fourth player over the week to capture a double-double with 12 kills and 11 assists in the match. Santos handled to setting duties, dishing out 27 assists for a season-high team .557 hitting percentage. Sydney Williams (Freshman/Homewood, Ala.) had a breakout match, hitting .600 on seven kills and posting a match-high seven blocks.
The RedHawks wrap up the first round of TranSouth play in a single match this week, hosting Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday, September 28th at 7:00pm. On October 5th, they travel to Trevecca-Nazarene to begin another set of TSAC competition.
