Women's Basketball: MMC Slips in Low-Score Contest, 38-37

PULASKI, Tenn. - On Homecoming afternoon in the Curry Christian Life Center, the RedHawks dropped a close contest to Cumberland University, 38-37. Neither team could find a rhythm, as CU came from a deficit in the first half to take the win.

Both teams shot just 23 percent, making just 24 shots from the field for the entire game combined. As Cumberland struggled to find their first basket in the first 11 minutes, finally draining one at 8:55, the RedHawks did not score a field goal over the final 10:21 of the first half, making four free throws during that stretch for their only points, and a 16-14 deficit at the half.

As the teams continued to tangle during the second frame, CU drained a three with just over 10 minutes to go that would prove to put them ahead for much of the remainder. Micah Anderson's late bucket would tie the contest, but CU would again go ahead by four. Jessy Christopher used a final three to come within a point of the Bulldogs, but as MMC thought there would be a foul call on the play, time expired giving CU the victory.

Keri O'Neal was the rebound leader with 16, as MMC outdid the Bulldogs on the glass, 42-33, while Vee Young led scoring for MMC with 11 points. Micah Anderson scored eight on the night, followed by Christopher and O'Neal both with seven. Christopher dished out six dimes in the effort, as Rachel Brown added to the rebound cause with nine.

The RedHawks fall to 17-11, 6-8 TranSouth with the loss, with two remaining league contests left. They will travel to Bethel University on Thursday, February 23rd, and close the regular season hosting Trevecca-Nazarene on Saturday, Febnruary 25th for Senior Day.
