Baseball: Five RedHawks Named to All-Conference Teams; McQueen and Tidwell Gold Glove Winners

JACKSON, Tenn. -- The 2012 TranSouth Conference Baseball postseason honors have been released. Keith Tidwell, Nick Flanagan, and Clint Gobbell were all first teamers, while Brock Glass and Rob Holley notched second team awards. Justin McQueen and Tidwell were also named to the Rawlings Gold Glove Team. These awards will be presented during a ceremony prior to game three in the conference tournament, which starts Monday, April 30 at Union University's Fesmire Field.

A host of new faces for MMC this season proved to be successful, led in part by first baseman Nick Flanagan who enters the tournament leading the RedHawks with a .374 batting average and 52 RBI. In his first season with the RedHawks, Flanagan also leads the team in homeruns (12), runs (50), and slugging percentage (.648).

Gobbell, another instrumental transfer, has been a two-time TranSouth Player of the Week, and is the RedHawks' stolen base leader with 10 this season. Gobbell has been a threat at the plate for the entirety of the season, walking a team-high 31 times, and striking out just 20 times in 150 at-bat, holding a team-high .478 on-base percentage. The sophomore left fielder hits .367 this season with 55 hits, 12 doubles, two triples, and seven homeruns to drive in 38 runs.

Tidwell, who missed the first few weeks of the season, wasted no time making a difference for MMC in the batting order and behind the plate. With a .340 average, the junior has tallied 33 hits, that include six doubles, a triple, and four homeruns in 97 at-bats and 28 starts. Tidwell caught 16 runners stealing for a .529 stolen base percentage, and was not responsible for a single error on his way to a Golden Glove award.

Glass returned for the RedHawks as the primary closer this season and did not disappoint, racking up 13 saves, fourth-best in the NAIA. With a 4.23 ERA and a 2-2 record, Glass threw 38.1 innings, striking out 37 batters.

Holley made impact as MMC's everyday centerfielder, hitting cleanup for much of the season with a .339 average. Holley's 17 doubles lead the team along with a triple and seven homeruns as part of his season 61 hits. Holley drove in 41 runs so far this season, drawing 27 walks with seven stolen bases.

McQueen made the move from second base to third during his senior campaign, seeing much success on the hot corner. McQueen tallied a .941 fielding percentage with 103 assists, 14 errors, 61 putouts, and was a part of 11 double plays.
