PULASKI, Tenn. – Head Baseball Coach Braxton Morris has resigned from his position leading the Firehawks baseball program, announced today.
Morris recently completed his first season at the helm of the program, guiding the Firehawks through the 2026 campaign and leading UT Southern to a berth in the Southern States Athletic Conference Baseball Championship.
"We appreciate Coach Morris for his time with our baseball program at UT Southern," said Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Brandie Paul. "We thank him for the impact he made on our student-athletes and wish him and his family the very best moving forward."
UT Southern also announced that longtime assistant coach
Jake Chaney has been named Interim Head Baseball Coach.
Chaney completed his fifth season as an assistant coach with the University of Tennessee Southern baseball program following the 2026 season.
A 2016 graduate of Priceville High School, Chaney began his collegiate playing career at Lawson State Community College in 2017. He then transferred to Motlow State Community College for the 2018 season, where he earned his associate degree before continuing his career at UT Southern. Chaney was an infielder for the Firehawk baseball team from 2019 to 2021, appearing in 81 games during his three-year career.
Now on the coaching staff, Chaney brings the same passion and energy he displayed as a player, helping to develop the next generation of Firehawks both on and off the field.
"Coach Chaney's experience within our program and his relationships with our student-athletes make him a natural choice to lead the team," Paul added. "We are confident in his ability to provide stability and leadership as we move forward."
