Men's Soccer: RedHawks Fall To 16th-Ranked Crusaders in OT

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – In a wild, back-and-forth contest that saw three lead changes and two ties, No.23 Martin Methodist suffered a 3-2 overtime defeat to No. 16 William Carey (Miss.) at Crusader Field Friday night.

The RedHawks (6-3-1, 3-2-1 SSAC) opened the scoring early, capitalizing on a goal from Juan Madrigal just eight minutes into the match.

The two teams would be held scoreless for the remainder of the first half before an offensive explosion after halftime.

The Crusaders (9-3-1, 6-1) opened the scoring in the second half with a goal in the 52nd minute to draw the teams level at 1-1.

Deadlocked at 1-1 for the next 20 minutes, Felix Krisofferson broke the tie in favor of the RedHawks when he took a pass from Kenneth Monge and slipped it into the back of the net to give the RedHawks a 2-1 lead.

The RedHawks appeared as if they might snag a hard-fought road conference victory, but the Crusaders responded with another goal eight minutes later to force extra time.

In the overtime period, the Crusaders wasted little time, scoring just three minutes into the extra frame to secure the win.

After holding a 7-4 edge in the first half, the RedHawks were outshot 13-7 in the second half and overtime period, with the Crusaders posting a five-shot flurry in the opening three minutes of the overtime period.

The loss snapped a two-match conference road winning streak for the RedHawks, who entered Friday's contest a perfect 2-0 on the road in SSAC play. The loss also snapped a two-match conference unbeaten streak.

The RedHawks will have a quick turnaround when they travel to Jackson, Miss. to take on defending NAIA National Champion Belhaven University Saturday afternoon.

Kickoff in tomorrow's contest is set for 7:30 p.m. at H.T. Newell Field in Jackson.
