Box Score PULASKI, Tenn. – A total of seven RedHawk seniors will be honored for their hard work and dedication to the Martin Methodist Baseball program during a ceremony shortly before Friday's regular-season finale against Freed-Hardeman University.
Josh Brown, a left-handed pitcher from Wartrace, Tenn., has spent the better part of the last two seasons as the RedHawks ace on the mound. Through Thursday night, Brown has appeared in a total of 31 games -- 24 of which were starts. During that time, Brown has notched an impressive 11 victories and a total of 87 strikeouts. Brown has been dominant at times in 2013, highlighted by a 1-hit, complete game shutout over Asbury College on March 9 that saw the senior carry a no-hitter to the game's final out.
Nick Flanagan, a catcher from Leighton, Ala., has spent the majority of the last two years as the team's cleanup hitter, posting back-to-back seasons with 50-plus Runs Batted In. Entering today's game, Flanagan has appeared in 102 career games, posting a career .352 batting average. Flanagan also cranked a total of 46 extra-base hits -- 18 of which were home runs. Flanagan ensured his name will permanently remain in the RedHawk record books earlier this season when he launched the first-ever home run in East Campus history -- a Grand Slam in the team's 29-0 win over Rust College.
Rob Holley, a center fielder from Pulaski, Tenn., has emerged as one of the team's most consistent hitters over the past three years, appearing in 142 career games while posting a .329 career batting average. Batting in the No. 2 hole, Holley has driven in a total of 31 runs this season while cranking out 54 hits. Holley's 13 doubles rank second on the team, just one behind fellow senior Matt Thomas. Holley turned in one of the most impressive hitting performances in RedHawk history earlier this season when he went 5-for-5 in the club's win over Mid-Continent University on March 30.
Jake Ray, a first baseman from Columbia, Tenn., has improved dramatically in his two years in a RedHawk uniform. After batting just .171 in 15 games his junior year, Ray has taken on an increased role in the RedHawk lineup this season, posting a .213 average while driving in 17 runs and posting 17 hits. Ray has also scored 12 runs this season while seeing time at first base as well as the designated hitter position.
Dillon Sands, a relief pitcher from Pulaski, Tenn., appeared in just five games in a RedHawk uniform over his two-year career, but brought an immeasureable amount of chemistry to the club. Sands also has achieved successes in the classroom, earning both TranSouth and NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards for his academic achievements.
Dakota Smith, a pitcher from Collinwood, Tenn., tossed 5.1 innings of work this season, most recently pitching 2.0 innings of relief work in the team's win over Tennessee Temple on April 9. His attitude and work ethic have rubbed off on his teammates this season, particularly his fellow pitching staff members.
Matt Thomas, a second baseman from Boaz, Ala., has launched an assault on the baseball during his senior season, posting a .455 batting average, which ranks among the best in the NAIA. Thomas also posted a second straight season with 20-plus extra-base hits, cranking out 14 doubles and an impressive six triples. Entering the afternoon, Thomas sits on 99 career Runs Batted In -- 52 of which have been brought home this season
