RedHawks Fall to Sharp-Shooting Eagles

MARIETTA, Ga. – The Martin Methodist Men's Basketball team was unable to overcome a sharp-shooting effort from downtown in a 95-75 loss at No. 25 Life (Ga.) University Thursday night.

In a rematch of a Nov. 14 contest that saw Martin Methodist fall by three at home, the RedHawks (0-11) saw the Running Eagles (10-2) connect on 17-of-38 shots from beyond the arc.

Despite the lopsided loss, Martin Methodist held its own in a first half against the defending NAIA national tournament runner-up.

The RedHawks led on a couple of occasions in the opening 20 minutes, highlighted by a five-point margin near the halfway mark of the period.

But in the second half, the Running Eagles cranked up the pressure from downtown as they sank 15 of their triples to balloon their lead to as many as XX.

The RedHawks mounted a final surge, however, as they whittled the lead back inside double-digits with just under five minutes left to play.

The effort came too late for the RedHawks, who saw their tough-luck losing skid continue. As the team pressed late, the Running Eagles were able to balloon their lead to as many as 20 as time expired.

Jemeereo Spain led the RedHawks offensively with 19 points on an 8-of-14 shooting effort. Spain's six assists led the RedHawks, who handed out 13 helpers for the contest. Van Johnson joined Spain in double figures with 16 points on the night.

JJ Jones matched his career high with nine points in his fourth career start. Jones also tracked down a career-best 14 rebounds in the defeat.

Five Running Eagles finished in double-figures, highlighted by Zach Landis' 10-point, 10-assist, 14-rebound triple-double.

Martin Methodist returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 9, when it travels to NCAA Division II foe University of North Alabama for an exhibition contest.

Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. in Florence, Alabama.
