PULASKI, Tenn. – Faith Sherrow scored a career-high 26, but a last-second 3-pointer rimmed out as Martin Methodist suffered a 60-58 overtime loss to Stillman (Ala.) Saturday afternoon in the Curry Christian Life Center.
The loss was the second heartbreaking defeat in as many games for the RedHawks (13-9, 7-5 SSAC), who suffered a narrow 70-67 loss to University of Mobile (Ala.) Thursday night.
In a game that featured 10 ties and seven lead changes, neither team could ever fully elude the other. The RedHawks led by as many as seven in the fourth quarter, while the Tigers (10-9, 5-6 SSAC) led by as many as nine in the second frame.
Trailing 60-58 with just over three seconds remaining, the RedHawks inbounded the ball cleanly to Sherrow, but her triple painstakingly rimmed out at the buzzer.
Brooklyn Blanchard nearly gave the RedHawks a victory at buzzer of regulation, but her 3-pointer also rimmed out as time expired.
The loss spoiled the career-high evening for Sherrow, who scored 14 of her 26 points at the free throw line. As a team, the RedHawks connected on 21-of-26 attempts from the charity stripe.
No other RedHawk finished in double-figures in the defeat. The Tigers were led by Jalicya Lowery's 16 points.
The loss marked a fourth straight for the RedHawks and their second consecutive defeat at home.
The RedHawks will look to rebound next Thursday when they travel to Cochran, Georgia for a showdown versus Middle Georgia State. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
