PULASKI, Tenn. – The Martin Methodist Baseball team mounted a midgame comeback, but dropped a 13-10 midweek contest to No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan at Bobby Walker Field.
After they surrendered four runs in the first two innings, the RedHawks (15-8) tacked on six runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. The Bulldogs (20-4) added four more runs in the top of the third to take an 8-6 lead.
Neither team would score in the fourth, but the Bulldogs added three more runs in the top of the fifth to push their lead to 11-6. The Bulldogs added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings to fend off the final RedHawk rally.
With heavy winds swirling at Bobby Walker Field, both teams combined for 27 total hits and 23 total runs. The RedHawks finished with 11 hits and eight RBIs.
Rob McMasters accounted for four of the RedHawk RBIs as he drove in two in the second via single and added two more with a two-out double in the seventh.
Desmond Williams turned in the other standout performance at the plate for the RedHawks, going 4-for-5 with four singles and three runs scored.
Jordan McKinney (0-1) suffered the loss as he allowed eight runs in 2.1 innings of work. Five other RedHawk pitchers relieved McKinney as the teams combined to utilize six pitchers each.
The contest was a stiff midweek test for the RedHawks, who return to action this weekend when they host No. 3 Faulkner (Ala.) in their third SSAC series of the season.
