RedHawks Win Nine Straight in SSAC

Mt. VERNON, Ga. – The Martin Methodist Baseball team won two tight ballgames early and then cruised to a 13-run victory in the final contest to secure a sweep versus Brewton-Parker (Ga.) this weekend.

The wins pushed the RedHawks (25-15, 11-6 SSAC) to nine straight conference victories, the second-longest active streak in league play this year. The wins also pushed the RedHawks to sole possession of third place in the league standings.

The RedHawks took Friday night's opener with a come-from-behind 9-7 victory. The RedHawks scored eight runs in the final two innings to rally past Brewton-Parker for the two-run win.

Saturday's doubleheader opened with another tight ballgame as the RedHawks won an 8-6 contest that featured several rain delays.

And in the finale, the RedHawks saved their best offensive performance for last as they cranked out 14 hits and 14 runs en route to a 14-1 victory to cap the sweep.

For the series, the RedHawks posted 31 runs and 38 hits. During the RedHawks nine-game conference win streak, the RedHawks have scored 97 runs and racked up 126 hits – good enough for 10.7 runs and 14 hits per ballgame.

Trevor McKinley turned in an impressive weekend for the RedHawks as he went 8-for-13 at the plate in the series with three runs scored and nine RBI. The junior homered in the opener and accounted for three doubles in the three-game set.

Tyler Robb had a big weekend as well, cranking out two home runs in the second ballgame of the series and driving in four runs in the 8-6 win. Robb added two singles in the finale as part of a 5-for-8 performance on the weekend.

Dylan Barbee (3-1), Caleb Brewer (5-1) and Zach Rowe (7-3) all picked up victories on the mound for the RedHawks, while Matt Westberry nailed down saves in the first two contests – his seventh and eighth saves of the season.

Rowe delivered the most dominant start of the weekend for the RedHawks as he scattered five hits across seven innings of work in the series finale.

The RedHawks return to action next weekend when they travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for a series versus William Carey (Miss.).
