MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After a strong weekend versus a ranked opponent, Martin Methodist sophomore Lance Pope has been named Southern States Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, for the week ending March 8.
Pope was on fire at the plate this weekend for the RedHawks (15-3, 4-2 SSAC), who took two-of-three ballgames from No. 24 University of Mobile (Ala.).
Pope went 8-of-15 at the plate for the RedHawks in the three-game series, posting five extra-base hits. Pope saved his best for last, going 3-for-5 with a double and a home run in the RedHawks 18-15 series finale victory.
Pope posted four doubles on the weekend and drove in four runs. The sophomore accounted for five runs scored himself.
On the year, Pope has posted a .366 average, going 26-for-71 at the plate with five home runs and a team-best 18 RBI.
The RedHawks return to action this weekend when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama for a three-game series versus No. 6 Faulkner (Ala.).
