PULASKI, Tenn. – Despite being in the midst of a grueling road stretch, the No. 16 Martin Methodist Men's Basketball team remains among the best in the NAIA and the Mid-South Conference this season.
The RedHawks (10-3, 6-3 MSC) dropped hard-fought contests at national powerhouses Georgetown (Ky.) and Shawnee State (Ohio) last Thursday and Saturday.
Head coach Dugan Lyne has guided the RedHawks to a 10-3 overall record, but to an unblemished 8-0 record inside the Curry Christian Life Center. Currently, the RedHawks sit in third place in the nationally competitive MSC.
"We got off to a hot start and kind of just rode the momentum," RedHawks head coach Dugan Lyne said. "This league is so competitive. Every game has been a fight and I am proud of the effort our guys have given to get these wins There are no 'gimmes' in this conference.
The RedHawks are led by a combination of sophomore point guard Adarion Hudson – who ranks in the Top 50 in the nation in a combination of steals, assists and scoring – and senior guard Darrin Jenkins., who was recently named MSC Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
For the year, Hudson averages 19.8 points and 5.9 assists per game. Jenkins, meanwhile, closely follows at 18.5 points per outing and a team-best 5.2 rebounds per game.
"Obviously we still have a long way to go, but it's fun to coach this bunch, We have leadership, skill and mental toughness. It is just a matter of putting all three together," Lyne said.
The RedHJawks return to action on Thursday, Jan. 21, when they travel to Williamsburg, Kentucky for a showdown versus University of the Cumberklands.
