MCKENZIE, Tenn. – MMC baseball completed a series win over RV Bethel University with a 14-4 win on Saturday, after splitting two games on Friday, a 5-4 win and a 7-0 loss.
"This was a big weekend for us going on the road and taking two from Bethel," said head coach Mitch Hill. "We had a lot of players step up and make plays when we needed them, and hit the baseball in timely situations. Tyler Robb (SR/Florence, Ala.) is seeing the baseball really well, and had some big hits for us. Sam King (SR/Madison, Ala.) got his first start of the year and pitched well, which we really, really needed out of him. This was the boost of confidence we needed moving into more conference play next weekend."
The RedHawks outlasted the Wildcats in the first game of the series, using a 3-for-3 effort from JD White (SR/Sheffield, Ala.) at the plate to fuel the offense. White also secured the win on the rubber for MMC throwing 2.2 innings in relief of starter Drew Bailey (JR/Summertown, Tenn.) and reliever Logan Parrott (SO/Lawrenceburg, Tenn.). The RedHawk bats fell silent in game two, as they were outhit 11-3, but rebounded in the rubber match on Saturday.
MMC pounded out 16 hits in the 14-4 rout of the Wildcats, led by Tanner Potterfield (SR/Scottsboro, Ala.) and Tyler Robb with four RBI a piece. Potterfield led all hitters at the dish with four hits, followed by Robb, Derick Junker (SR/Murfreesboro, Tenn.), and Austin Huggins (JR/Huntsville, Ala.) with three hits each. Sam King went the distance on the mound giving up four hits and striking out six in eight innings of work, picking up the win.
MMC returns to the diamond at 4pm on Tuesday, March 30th, traveling to No. 15 Bryan College for a 9-inning game.
