Firehawks Fall to Crusaders

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team began the final road trip of the regular season with a trip to William Carey on Friday. The Crusaders outlasted the Firehawks in three sets.
UT Southern (7-12, 4-7) dropped the opening set that was all William Carey. In the second set, UTS came out swinging after trailing 1-0. The Firehawks put together a 9-0 run powered by three kills from Sophia Ortega and one from Nathaly Taylor. UTS would lead for the bulk of the set. In the late going with the score tied at 23, a Laura Howell serve first appeared to be on the baseline was ruled out giving WCU their first lead of the set since 1-0. Carey would win the next point to take a 2-0 set lead. In the final set, the home team worked up a 14-3 lead to ride out the sweep.
