PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's baskeball opened the 2024-25 season hosting Oakwood at the Curry Athletic Complex on Tuesday. The Firehawks blazed the nets shooting 44 percent from the field to rout the Ambassadors 94-61 earning Coach
Ross James his first win at UT Southern.
Six Firehawks scored in double figures with
Ashley Dickey leading the charge with 18 points.
Lauren Smith added a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Maggie Hale hit three of seven from distance shooting 43 percent adding 15 points.
Kassidy Broussard was a force on both ends of the floor contributing 12 points, eight steals, and seven assists.
Takiyah Goff pitched in 11 points, and
Daysha Reid netted 10 points.
The Firehawks connected on 10 triples and forced 33 Ambassador turnovers.
BY THE NUMBERS
38:26 – The Firehawks took the opening lead, and never relinquished that advantage.
24 – UTS found the open player often recording 24 assists
43.8% – Lighting the nets on fire, UTS shot 32-73 from the field.
27 – The starting five was not the only source of production for the Firehawks. The reserves added 27 points.
44 – UTS had success in the post out scoring the Ambassadors 44-28 in the paint.
