Three Firehawks Scratch in Double Figures, UT Southern Falls to Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball team played former Southern States Athletic Conference member Stillman College on Saturday. The Firehawks fell 92-70 suffering their first loss of the season. Three Firehawks scored in double figures as the team struggled shooting 14 percent from beyond the arch.
The Firehawks got on the board first with a Takiyah Goff layup in the early going. The tigers would answer back with a long triple. The Firehawks put together a 10 point run to lead 12-4 half way through the period. The run was fueled by four points by Kassidy Broussard, four points by Daysha Reid, and two points by Goff. In the early going, the Firehawk defense held the Tigers to one field goal in the opening six minutes. SC out scored the Firehawks 17-6 to closing out the opening period UTS trailing by three.
Stillman continued their hot shooting from beyond the arch in the third quarter, netting the first six points. The Firehawks dug in again for another 10-point run hitting four of six shots. The run was led by Broussard adding four points. Silkiari Vazquez-Troche, Reid, and Goff all contributed a pair. Trailing 49-46, the Tigers once again finished the period strong as the held a 10 point lead at 62-52 heading to the final quarter.
In the final period, the Firehawks battled hard, but couldn't over come a 22-8 stillman run to open the fourth. UTS suffered a cold shooting night from distance hitting only four of 28 triples.
Dickey led the Firehawks with 21 points. Reid added 14 points and six rebounds. Broussard scored 11 points in limited action.

37.9% – The Firehawks shot 25 of 66 from the field
19 – SC outrebounded UTS 51-32 in the game.
24 – UTS forced 24 Tiger turnovers, three less that they committed
27 – UTS' bench was outscored by SC's 48-21
72 – Both teams visited the paint often as each scored 36 points

The Firehawks will travel to Montgomery, Ala., to battle Faulkner at Tine Davis Gym on Thursday, November 14th. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
