WEST POINT, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team continued a four-game conference road trip tonight battling Point. The Firehawks came up short falling in straight sets to the Skyhawks. UT Southern will travel to Marietta, Ga., to face Life tomorrow at noon.
UT Southern (5-9, 2-5) kept it close in the early going tying the Skyhawks at six. Point began to pull away, but UTS fought back to draw back even again at 19 all. PU would run six of the final eight points to take the first set. The home squad outhit the Firehawks .593 to .259.
In the second set, Point took the early lead 9-3. After a Firehawk timeout, UTS pulled to within two, trailing 10-12. Point would pull away again, but UT Southern pulled back even at 19. The Skyhawks would end the set on a nine to three run to lead in the match 2-0.
In the final set, both teams traded the lead as the early going featured three ties. With eh score locked at five, Point would begin to pull away and hold a two-point cushion. Three big runs by the home team ended the match in three.
