COLUMBIA, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's basketball played former Mid-South Conference member Lindsey Wilson on Monday. The Firehawks fell short of a comeback win 65-59.
UTS took the early 3-2 lead on long range shot by
Vito Vujovic. The Blue Raiders answered with a triple of their own that led to a six point deficit for the Firehawks. After a three minute scoring drought by both teams, UT Southern closed to within one from baskets by
Kiah Key and
Eric Robinson. After Lindsey Wilson pulled out to another lead, UTS fought back to trail 22-21 with eight minutes left. Heading to the half, the home squad would out score the Firehawks 12-9.
In the second half, the Firehawks would take their second lead in the game on a three point play by Robinson with 15 minutes left. LWC would score on their next possession to hold the lead for the remainder of the half. UTS would trail two time in the final eight minutes by eight points and come back to close the gap to three. The final time trailing 62-59, LWC would make three free-throws in the final 20 seconds.
Three Firehawks scored in double figures with Vujovic narrowly missing a double double scoring 13 points and nine rebounds.
Bradin Nelson and
Mark Vance each had 10 points in the loss.
BY THE NUMBERS
27 – The Firehawks dialed up Ma Bell for long distance nine times for 39 percent.
42 – UTS cleaned the glass pulling down 42 rebounds, seven more than LWC.
13 – UTS was plagued by 13 turnovers, seven more than the Blue Raiders.
