Three New Assistant Coaches Join UT Southern Athletics

PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Southern Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Brandie Paul announced three new assistant coaches have joined the UT Southern Athletics staff. Rebecca Camacho, Hawley Ill, and Cole Morris have been chosen to fill vacancies in the Volleyball, Softball, and Men's Basketball programs this fall.
"We are excited to add quality assistants in volleyball, softball, and men's basketball", Paul added. "These three assistants bring a wealth of knowledge in their respective sports. Please join me in welcoming Coach Camacho, Coach Ill and Coach Morris. Go Firehawks!"

Camacho Named Assistant Volleyball Coach
"I am excited to begin my collegiate coaching career at UT Southern. The passionate, competitive, cohesive environment of the athletic department and the university assures me that there is no better program to be a part of. I'm looking forward to learning under the guidance of Coach Yancey and assisting in the growth and improvement of our volleyball program." – Rebecca Camacho
 
Camacho, a native of Ashville, North Carolina, was a four-year middle blocker at Bryan College. She appeared in 178 matches, accumulating 247 kills, 29 aces, and 108 total blocks. She graduated from Bryan College in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and minors in biblical studies and Soul Care Counseling.
 
"We are excited to have Rebecca join our program and institution", commented Head Coach Janay Yancey.  "Her wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm shines within the assistant coach role. We welcome all that Rebecca brings to UT Southern Volleyball." 

Ill Named Assistant Softball Coach
"I am super excited to be joining the UT Southern family, and Coach Murphy out on the softball field, and can't wait to accomplish many great things alongside her. I would also like to thank my family for supporting me on this journey. Go Firehawks!"  – Hawley Ill
 
Ill, a native of Orlando, Florida, began her collegiate athletic career at Central Florida College, earning an Associate of Arts in 2013, where she played two seasons for the Patriots. She transferred to the University of Pikeville where she tossed 63.2 innings earning a 5-5 win/loss record for the Bears. Ill Played her senior season at St. Andrews University. She graduated Cum Laude from Southern New Hampshire University in 2023 with a B.A. in Communications.
"I am excited to have Coach Hawley join the UT Southern Softball program as our new assistant coach, commented Head Coach Murphy Davis. "She brings with her a wealth of softball knowledge and experience both as a player and a coach. Welcome to the Firehawk family!"

Morris Named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
"I want to express my gratitude to Head Coach Andy Sharpe and Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Brandie Paul for allowing me to be a part of the Firehawk Men's Basketball program. I'm excited to join Coach Sharpe's staff and advance his vision for the Men's Basketball Program as we strive to create champions on and off the court." – Cole Morris
 
Morris, a native of Rimersburg, Pennsylvania was a three-year point guard at Penn State DuBois, where he started 56 of 63 appearances averaging nine points and 3.8 assists per game. He graduated in 2020 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Wentworth Institution of Technology and Coker University.
 
"Coach Morris has and will continue to be an instant impact addition to the Men's Basketball staff as well as to our entire UT Southern athletic department and campus", commented Head Coach Andy Sharpe. "I have known Cole to possess a contagious energy that will permeate our program and align with the standard of excellence to which we will aspire daily. There is no task beneath Cole and that humility and commitment will serve our student-athletes well. Cole was a part of a staff at NCAA D2 Coker University last season that saw their program break numerous records and Cole was directly involved with the recruiting and skill development processes there that helped take Coker to another level. I'm excited to roll up my sleeves and work shoulder to shoulder with Cole as we continue to build upon the success that has been achieved here at UT Southern while continuing to elevate the standard and expectation of our Men's Basketball program."
