MONTGOMERY, Ala. –
Sophia Ortega of UT Southern was named SSAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week, Tatum Beech of Mobile (Ala.) was named SSAC Volleyball Setter of the Week and Paige Collier of Middle Georgia State was named SSAC Volleyball Defender of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The awards are based on performance for the week of Sept. 16-22.
Sophia Ortega (UT Southern – SR – OH – Miami, Fla.)
- This is her third-career weekly honor
- Ortega helped the Firehawks to a 3-0 win over BMCU with 15 kills (5.0 k/s)
- She attacked at a .333 clip and added nine digs and a pair of aces
Tatum Beech (Mobile – SR – S – Spanish Fort, Ala.)
- This is her fourth-career weekly honor
- In a 6-2 offense, Beech totaled 48 assists (6.9 a/s) as the Rams went 2-0 on the road in SSAC action
- She posted 25 assists in a 3-1 win at William Carey and 23 assists in a 3-0 win at Loyola
Paige Collier (Middle Georgia – JR – L – Douglasville, Ga.)
- This is her third-career weekly award
- Collier produced 53 digs (6.6 d/s) in a 1-1 week for the Knights
- That included a 39-dig effort in a five-set match v. Savannah State
